CACAO PRICES ARE DROPPING, AND TONY’S IS WAKING UP THE INDUSTRY*
11/10/2021
The cacao prices are dropping immensely, and Tony’s Chocolonely is calling out the industry. This month, a dramatic drop of 18,5% in the main crop price of cocoa in Ivory Coast was announced. Heartbreaking news, since this will lead to millions of small holder farmers falling further below the poverty line.
Tony’s Chocolonely pays an additional premium on top of the Fairtrade premium called the Living Income Reference Price – an essential part of enabling farmers to earn a living income. Tony’s is calling on all chocolate companies to match this price they pay for cocoa to enable cocoa farmers to earn a living income and drive modern slavery and illegal child labour out of the chocolate industry. As we’ve been working close with Tony’s for years on their mission, we are passionate on the subject and happy to spread the word to our contacts.
