Cocoa prices on the rise: a good thing?*
29/02/2024
Cocoa prices in Ghana and Cote d’Ivoire are rising. Good news for the farmers! Right? We hate to break it to you, but nope... Because even though cocoa is now more expensive than ever before, the cocoa farmers are still not earning a fair income. Something that Tony’s Chocolonely obviously can not ignore, especially not at the heart of 60% of the world’s cocoa production. As an impact company, Tony’s always pay the living income reference price to farmers, meaning they pay them a higher price to make sure they earn enough to make a living. And they want to urge other chocolate companies to do the same. Because everyone, from producers to consumers, deserves a taste of sweetness and fairness.
Joining them on the barricades, we shared a pressing statement to our national media database, making sure that Tony’s take on the subject was included in the narrative. Because what is happening on the cocoa market is not what is happening in farmer’s reality. Happy to see that our local newspapers shared Tony's angle on this!
